Catastrophic Injury

Catastrophic injuries are severe and life-altering, often resulting in long-term or permanent disability. Catastrophic injuries are typically characterised by their severity and the significant impact they have on the injured individual’s physical, emotional, and financial wellbeing. Examples of catastrophic injuries include spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, severe burns, amputations, and multiple fractures.

360 Medico Legal specialists are involved in assessing, documenting, and providing expert medical opinions on the medical aspects of catastrophic injuries. Their expertise helps establish the extent of the injuries, their impact on the individual’s life, and the associated damages for legal proceedings or insurance claims.

Our role in Catastrophic Injury claims

Our independent medical experts are involved in assessing and documenting catastrophic injuries. They conduct comprehensive medical evaluations, review medical records, perform diagnostic tests, and consult with other specialists where required to determine the nature and extent of the injuries. These assessments aim to provide an accurate understanding of the injuries, their immediate and long-term consequences, and the associated medical needs.
At 360 Medico legal our independent medical experts play a crucial role in establishing the link between the catastrophic injuries and the events or circumstances that caused them. Their objective evaluations and expert medical opinions contribute to determining the causation of the injuries, evaluating the impact on the individual’s physical and cognitive abilities, and projecting future care and rehabilitation needs.
In legal proceedings or insurance claims, our medico legal reports and expert testimony can be essential. They provide critical evidence to support or challenge the injured party’s case, substantiate claims for compensation, and quantify the damages resulting from the catastrophic injuries. Medico legal experts assist by explaining complex medical concepts to judges, juries, and lawyers, ensuring a clear understanding of the extent and impact of the injuries on the injured individual’s life.

At 360 Medico Legal our thorough assessment, documentation, and expert analysis of the medical aspects of the injuries contribute to establishing the severity and impact of the injuries, providing the crucial evidence in legal proceedings or insurance claims seeking compensation for the damages incurred due to these life-altering injuries.

The four stages of our process ensure that your Medico-Legal report is of the highest standard.

360 Medico Legal receives instructions from solicitors, insurers and case managers together with medical documents. The referrer is provided with a list of potential independent medical specialists. Often the enquiry needs a particular specialisation or field of practice, and 360 Medico Legal can assist with this.

An appointment is made with the client to visit our rooms. The 360 Medico Legal team ensures all necessary reports and medical information is available for the specialist.

The client attends our offices for their consultation with the independent medical specialist. To maximise efficiency, the client can see more than one specialist on the same day. Are you outside Perth? We also offer medico legal assessments via telehealth across Australia as well as in person at specific locations.

Our independent medico legal reports are completed by the specialist(s) and vetted by the in-house Quality Audit team - which is headed up by our CIR accredited & Registered Clinical Nurse Manager. The completed medico legal reports are then provided to the instructing referrer within two weeks of the final consultation.
